Read the article by John Cloud titled, “Is Genius Born or Can it be Learned?”
Summarize Cloud’s purpose in writing the article. Describe the conclusions he has reached about genius. How can you apply this information to how you approach your own learning and academic life, particularly your Genius Hour Project. Cloud’s purpose for writing the article was to explain a few viewpoints on the idea of cultivating geniuses. He believes that, in order for a genius to be “cultivated”, there are two main factors that model a child into a genius; Genetics and the environment around them. He believes that for someone to be a genius they need to work towards mastering the field that they wish to be a genius in. If I want my genius hour project to look and seem as though I am a genius on the topic I am doing, I need to put in the necessary effort and time to be the genius I know I can be.
